Chasing Excellence
/Here is an Inspiring talk by Anthony Lombardi, he is an insightful and inspiring Chiropractor from Hamilton Ontario. I recommend his Youtube video as a motivator to small business owners in any profession, but I think it is especially applicable to massage therapists. I have made some notes for the busy therapist who may not have time to watch the video in its entirety.
Dr.Lombardi sets out three qualities that are needed to be successful.
- Motivation
- Commitment
- Passion
Motivation
Dr.Lombardi uses the example of Matthew McConaughey after McConaughey won the Oscar for Best Actor for his performance in "Dallas Buyers Club" in 2014 he says that he needs a hero, someone who he can chase. Another example of motivation comes from Italy. Enzo Ferrari motivated a tractor manufacturer to create a line of sports cars comparable to Ferraris’ this story is told in the New York Times article- A Long Way From Tractors.
“When I was 15 years old, I had a very important person in my life come to me and say “who’s your hero?” And I said, “I don’t know, I gotta think about that. Give me a couple of weeks.” I come back two weeks later, this person comes up and says “who’s your hero?” I said, “I thought about it. You know who it is? It’s me in 10 years.” So I turned 25. Ten years later, that same person comes to me and says, “So, are you a hero?” And I was like, “not even close. No, no, no.” She said, “Why?” I said, “Because my hero’s me at 35.” So you see every day, every week, every month and every year of my life, my hero’s always 10 years away. I’m never gonna be my hero. I’m not gonna attain that. I know I’m not, and that’s just fine with me because that keeps me with somebody to keep on chasing.”

Commitment
“Quality of care and clinical result promotes the brand”
An example of commitment to a quality product is Ferdinand Porsche who thrived in the face to adversity to create the premium brand we know today as Porsche. Another example of commitment is Fred Smith, the founder of FedEx was who saved the company from bankruptcy using the high risk game of blackjack. Passion
Michelangelo was so fueled by the passion of art that he as a sculptor stepped outside his comfort zone to paint the masterpiece that covers the ceiling of The Sistine Chapel. An example of this passion i now know throughout the world as one of the greatest pieces of art of all time.
